Lead
Added on Tuesday 29 June, 2010

For the last three years lead has been on a wild ride as far as prices are concerned. This has seen the prices go up as high as fourfold and has had a disastrous impact on battery prices. Although we are down from the highest points that we experienced about 18 months ago we are still dealing with a very expensive raw material that is in high demand. Over 60% of the cost of a battery is attributable to the price of lead. Most of our Power-Sonic batteries are manufactured in China and as such are subject to the price of lead on the Shanghai Metals Exchange (SME). The exchange acts independently of the London Metals Exchange (LME) and the prices between the two exchanges can vary dramatically. If you are interested in learning more about lead prices you can log on to the English section of the SME: http://en.smm.cn  The LME prices can be accessed by logging on to: www.kitcometals.com/charts/lead.html
